Our mission is to promote the physical and mental health of our communities by lessening the effects of substance abuse on families. We do this by aiding the recovery efforts of families affected by alcohol, drugs and tobacco, creating prevention strategies, and adding our voice to public education and policy formation. Individuals are responsible for themselves, but cannot change for the better without helping hands.
Recovery Network was born in 2003 in River Falls, Wisconsin, created by a small group of persons concerned about alcoholism and chemical dependency. Each member of the original group had worked professionally with affected families, and/or experienced the impact in their own families. We knew that no one anywhere could be immune to related problems, the disruption of healthy life for individuals, families, and communities. We resolved to work toward finding and helping the special population with special needs, bringing resources to bear on the situation, in cooperation with other public and private agencies.
Healthy Communities had come into being in River Falls in 1993, with this mission: The organization encourages physical and mental wellness by enhancing and supporting all community members to reach and live to their fullest potential in harmony with each other and with the environment." Healthy Communities had sponsored many great services, including YMCA after-school and summer programs for pre-teens, TLC (Tender Loving Care) extending practical help and education in parenting to young mothers, and school-oriented anti-smoking campaigns.
Recovery Network first joined Healthy Communities as a member agency, covered by HC non-profit status. In the evolution of this partnership, HC supported RN, which earned a unique place in the array of social services. In June 2007 a merger occurred, creating Healthy Communities and Recovery Network-now one organization with a three-part, expanded vision: prevention, recovery, and social action.
HC-RN now functions in an independent center located at 183 Pomeroy St., River Falls, Wisconsin, easy to find and handicap accessible. "The Pomeroy" is open to visitors starting on September 4, 2007, with a Grand Opening scheduled in the spring of 2008. We are supported by the St. Croix United Way, the Bremer Foundation, and many private contributors.
